Your subject line should contain the bill #, your voting district (Leg District 1 for Boundary and most of Bonner County), and how you want them to vote. In the body, give as personal story as you can, and why you want to vote the way you do. Sign with your name, address, phone number.
Talking points (this is pretty rough, needs edits). In Bonner County - in the most recent election for library board, there was a decisive win for the candidate who opposed last year’s bill on this subject.

ACTION
- Testify, via Zoom OR submit comments in writing:- click here,
It is important to give your input to the committee as it is the first step in a bill’s progress through the legislature. This is when representatives are still considering whether a bill merits further consideration, and they may still be open to information you provide. It is also the only place that there will be a public record of your opinion - which can be useful to provide cover for the Governor, should the bill pass the 2 chambers, and should he want veto it.
- phone/text committee members.
 - click here for contact info for committee members- You can leave a voice message at numbers that are listed as “session only”. I would guess that most of the personal phone numbers (which you are free to use) would be text-able. (Give me feedback if you experience something else).
- sign a petition. Fight for the First (“nay” position)
If you don’t have time to write or phone, sign a petition (or do both!)
TALKING POINTS
- Pro: Parents want to protect children from inappropriate material.
- Con: Children are not accessing obscene materials in libraries. There is already a process in place in every district though library boards to review materials coming into the system, and those boards are elected and held accountable to the voters. This kind of legislation encourages “rat out your neighbor” activity and will harm our communities. Bill also would limit the freedom of choice for some parents choices by other parents’ “standards”. Community standards are already implemented through library boards. Parents can control what their children access, so it should be up to each family to determine this, not by more governmental control. For Bonner County - in the most recent election for library board, there was a decisive win for the candidate who opposed last year’s bill on this subject.
